An Open Ramble: Sodom & Gomorrah, Modern Disasters, and Fundamentalist/Evangelistic Preachers

This is an open ramble asking for your input.



Some background reiteration. I am a gay Christian who believes in the Bible as a tool to draw us closer to God and not as a weapon to drive people away from God. I graduated from an Evangelic Bible College with degrees in Biblical Studies and in Biblical Languages, with a year of study in Jerusalem. My view on Christianity and homosexuality does not really fit in alignment with American Fundamentalist/Evangelical views.

That said, my ramble:

Whenever there is a major disaster or terror attack against Americans, the televangelists get the Fundamentalists/Evangelicals riled up against the homosexuals saying that it is God's wrath against America for allowing gay this or that. In the same vein, sort of, Fundamentalists use Sodom and Gomorrah as an example of God's wrath against homosexuals. However, whenever S&G and their sins are ever mentioned again in Scripture, whether by the prophets or by Christ, the sins are those of over-indulgences and lack of hospitality.

So, if most American Evangelicals do not fall for the likes of Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Fred Phelps blaming all the disasters on homosexuals, why then do they cling to the notion that S&G was destroyed because of the homosexuals when no where else in Scripture is such mentioned?
